Recovery attempt
Definition
A recovery attempt (recovery trade) is a trade of an increased amount opened right after a loss, sized so that one win returns the loss and brings the profit of a normal trade. In binary options at an 80–92% payout the amount is raised not twofold but 2.1–2.25 times; the terminal's default coefficient is 2.2. One or two recoveries with a limit set in advance are a working technique, a chain of recoveries without a limit is martingale with all its risks.
How the recovery amount is calculated
After a loss the next trade must return everything already lost in the series and bring the profit of a normal trade. The formula: (accumulated loss + desired profit) ÷ payout. At an 85% payout and a $10 base trade this gives a coefficient of about 2.2, which is what the trade manager and the Supercharts trade panel use. This is what a five-step series looks like:
| Step | Trade amount | Lost before this step | Win on the step (85%) | Series result |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | $10 | — | +$8.50 | +$8.50 |
| 2 | $22 | $10 | +$18.70 | +$8.70 |
| 3 | $48.40 | $32 | +$41.14 | +$9.14 |
| 4 | $106.48 | $80.40 | +$90.51 | +$10.11 |
| 5 | $234.26 | $186.88 | +$199.12 | +$12.24 |
The bank for five steps is $421.14, the sum of all trades in the series. That is a risk of 42 base amounts for a profit of one: this is where the whole danger of a recovery lies. Exact figures for your payout and number of steps come from the martingale calculator.
In the video with the levels + CCI strategy the last series of the day looked exactly like this: 10,000, 22,000 and 48,400 ₽ closed as losses, and the fourth step of 106,480 ₽ at a 92% payout brought 97,962 ₽ and took the series to +17,562 ₽. Three losses in a row cost 80,400 ₽ of risk for a final profit of one and a half base trades.
Recovery rules from the strategy breakdowns
- One recovery per asset. If it closes as a loss too, the asset is left: the move is stronger than it looked.
- The second step on another asset. That is how the "double recovery" works: the loss stays in the amount calculation, but the trade itself is sought on a new chart in a new situation.
- A broken level means exit. The level the trade was opened from has turned grey, so there are no more entries on this asset.
- A pause after an extended move. Do not catch "one more loss" and do not look for an entry with the trend where a correction may begin after a strong rise.
- The step limit is set before the session. The number of steps and the bank for the series are calculated in advance, not at the moment the third trade in a row closes as a loss.
How to apply it in binary options
- Choose a base amount, usually 1–2% of the deposit, and the number of steps. Calculate the series bank: with three steps at coefficient 2.2 it is 8 base amounts, with six it is 93.
- If the series bank is more than you are prepared to lose in one evening, reduce the base rather than the number of steps "for luck".
- After a loss open a recovery only on a new situation from the strategy, not "to win it back". No situation, no trade; the loss stays in the journal.
- After a win return to the base amount.
- Keep a daily loss limit as an external stop: it ends the session even if the series has "not yet reached" the step limit.
In the terminal
In BinoView Supercharts a recovery can be run by hand: the trade panel has "×" and "÷" buttons next to the amount and the 2.2 coefficient, one tap raises or resets the amount. The trade manager does the same automatically: the "Martingale" strategy fills in the step amount and shows the required balance, "Cascade" splits the series into blocks, "Compensation recovery" climbs a ladder with a 1.3 coefficient. In signal bots the recovery is enabled as a separate setting with the number of steps and the rule to "recover on the same pair" or move to another asset.
How it differs from martingale
Martingale is a system: after every loss the amount grows until a win comes or the bank runs out. A recovery is a single action with a limit of one or two steps, after which the series is closed as a loss and started over. The maths is the same, the difference is where the stop stands. The ladder progression with a 1.2–1.3 coefficient does not cover a loss with one win and spreads the recovery over several trades, while the anti-martingale raises the amount after a win, not after a loss.
Frequently asked questions
Why is a recovery sized with a 2.2 coefficient rather than doubled?
Because a win in binary options brings less than a loss takes away. At an 85% payout a $10 trade earns $8.50 but loses $10. For one win to return the loss and bring the profit of a base trade, the amount must rise to (10 + 8.5) ÷ 0.85 ≈ $21.8, that is 2.18 times. The general rule: the coefficient is no less than 1 + 1 ÷ payout, at 80% that is 2.25. Doubling ×2 no longer covers the loss on the later steps.
What is a double recovery?
The second step after a loss, opened not on the same asset but on another one. In the strategy breakdowns it is called exactly that: "a double recovery on another asset". The point is not to chase on a chart that has gone into an extended move: the loss is more likely to repeat there. The amount follows the same chain, for example 10,000 → 22,000 → 48,400 ₽.
How many recoveries are acceptable?
In the manual trading from the breakdowns one, at most two per asset, after which the situation is left and a new one is sought. For bots the limit is set by the number of steps: five or six steps at coefficient 2.2 need a bank of 42–93 base amounts, eight steps nearly 460. Which streak your deposit can survive is calculated by the martingale calculator, and when to stop at all is set by the daily loss limit.
